1. About these terms
These terms apply when you book Dumpit Scotland to remove waste or clear a property. They sit alongside the quote we give you: where a written quote says something different about scope or price, the quote wins.
Dumpit Scotland is registered in Scotland, company number SC516270, registered office 50 East Kilbride Road, Clarkston, Glasgow, G76 8JX. We are a SEPA registered waste carrier, registration WCR/R/3002381. Our VAT number is VAT number — to be confirmed.
2. Quotes and prices
We price by volume — the space your waste fills in our lorry — not by weight and not by the hour, except for heavy inert (the heavy stuff — rubble, concrete, brick and soil) material which is priced by the tonne. The current price list is on our prices page and forms part of these terms.
A quote given from a photograph or description is a fixed price for what we were shown. If what is actually there is materially more than was described, or includes items we were not told about, we will tell you the revised price before we start loading. You are free to decline at that point and there is nothing to pay.
All prices are quoted excluding VAT unless stated otherwise, and VAT is added at the prevailing rate.
3. Booking, access and timing
We will agree an arrival window with you rather than an exact minute, because traffic, tips and preceding jobs are not perfectly predictable. We will contact you if we are running outside the window.
You are responsible for making sure we can get to the waste — that someone can give us access, and that parking is available and lawful. Where a permit, loading bay or factor's permission is needed, that is for you to arrange unless we have agreed otherwise in writing. If we cannot access the property at the agreed time and have not been told in advance, a wasted-journey charge may apply.
4. Your responsibilities
- You confirm that you own the items, or have the owner's permission to have them removed. We cannot verify this and we rely on what you tell us.
- You must tell us in advance about anything hazardous, and about difficult access such as an upper floor with no lift.
- Please check the load before we leave. Once waste has left the property it is processed quickly and cannot be recovered.
- Where the work relates to a property you do not own, such as a rented flat, obtaining the landlord's or factor's consent is your responsibility.
5. What we can and cannot take
We are registered to carry non-hazardous waste. We cannot carry asbestos, clinical or medical waste, sharps, pharmaceuticals, gas cylinders, fuel, oils, solvents, paints in bulk, chemicals or other special waste. Those require a licensed hazardous waste carrier and consignment documentation, and we will always tell you who to contact instead. The full picture is on our hazardous and special waste page and our items we take page.
If hazardous material is found in a load after collection, we reserve the right to recover the reasonable cost of disposing of it correctly.
6. Waste transfer and duty of care
Everyone who produces waste has a legal duty of care (your legal responsibility for waste you produce) to make sure it is passed only to an authorised person and disposed of properly. That duty applies to householders in Scotland as well as to businesses.
We issue a waste transfer note for every collection. Keep it. It is your evidence that you met your duty of care, and it is what protects you if waste is later traced back to you. You can verify our registration, WCR/R/3002381, on SEPA's public register at sepa.org.uk.
7. Payment
Payment is due on completion unless a credit account has been agreed in writing. We accept card and bank transfer. For account customers, invoices are payable within 30 days, and we reserve the right to charge interest and recovery costs on overdue commercial invoices under the Late Payment of Commercial Debts (Interest) Act 1998.
8. Cancellation
You can cancel or move a booking by calling or messaging us. We ask for as much notice as you can give. Cancelling on the day, after a crew has been dispatched, may attract a charge covering the wasted journey.
Your statutory cancellation right
Where you are a consumer and the contract was made away from our premises or at a distance — which covers phone, WhatsApp and the forms on this website — you have a right to cancel within 14 days under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013, without giving a reason.
Because most of our work is same-day or next-day, that right often overlaps with the job itself. If you ask us to carry out the work within the 14-day period and then cancel, you may be charged for what has already been done. If the work has been completed in full within the period at your request, the right to cancel is lost. None of this affects your rights if something goes wrong.
9. Damage and liability
We carry public liability and employer's liability insurance, and certificates are available on request. We take real care in properties, but clearance work involves carrying heavy items through finished spaces.
Please report any damage to us within 48 hours so we can inspect it while the facts are fresh. We are not liable for:
- pre-existing damage, or wear revealed once furniture is moved — marks on walls and flooring underneath a wardrobe that has stood for years, for example;
- damage that is unavoidable in removing an item you have asked us to remove, such as a fitted unit or a stairlift;
- items of value disposed of because they were included in a load you asked us to take — please check before we load;
- losses that were not reasonably foreseeable, or business losses such as lost profit, where you are a consumer.
Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited. Your statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, including the right to services carried out with reasonable care and skill, are not affected.
10. If something goes wrong
Tell us. Call 07888 999 715 or email info@dumpitscotland.co.uk and we will look into it and reply within five working days. Most things are fixed with a phone call.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of Scotland, and the Scottish courts have jurisdiction. If you live elsewhere in the UK, you keep the benefit of any mandatory consumer protections that apply where you live.
12. Your information
How we handle your personal data is set out in our privacy policy, and what we store on your device is in our cookie policy.
