The Glasgow brown bin (garden waste permit)
Glasgow City Council collects garden waste in the brown bin, but it runs on a paid annual garden waste permit — you buy a sticker for the year and put the bin out on your scheduled collection days. Check the council website for the current fee and to sign up. It's fine for regular grass and hedge trimmings, but it's a slow route for a big clear-out — and it won't take turf, soil or timber.
Home composting
Grass clippings, leaves, prunings and plant matter all compost well. Cut woody material small to speed it up, keep a mix of green and brown material, and turn it now and then to avoid smells. It's free, and it feeds your garden — though it won't deal with turf, roots or bulk.
Recycling centres
Glasgow's household waste recycling centres take garden waste free for residents (proof of address, and mind the van and 1.8m height limits). Fine for a few bags in the car — less so for a trailer-load, which is where the tip starts to fall down.
Cleared back a whole garden?
We take the lot — cuttings, turf, soil, old sheds and fence panels — and compost or recycle the green waste. One visit, fixed price.
Clearing large amounts of garden waste
For an overgrown garden, a hedge reduction or a shed-and-fence clear-out, the permit bin and the car boot just won't cut it. A licensed garden clearance service does the barrowing, lifting and loading and takes it all away in one go — green waste composted or recycled, heavier soil and turf charged by weight. That's exactly what we do across Glasgow.
