The site at a glance
The centre is on Cambuslang Road in Rutherglen, G72 7DB, between the two towns and right on the edge of Glasgow. Its official name is the Cambuslang and Rutherglen Waste and Recycling Centre, and it is the site for the north-west corner of South Lanarkshire.
Hours follow the council's seasonal pattern: 8am to 7pm Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm Saturday and 8am to 5pm Sunday from April to September, then 8am to 5pm daily from October to March. Closed Christmas Day and New Year's Day. Last entry is 15 minutes before closing and it is enforced.
Being so close to Glasgow, it gets Glasgow residents trying to use it. It is a South Lanarkshire site for South Lanarkshire households, and the booking system is how that is checked. Glasgow's own sites are in Glasgow recycling centres; the nearest is Polmadie.

Booking, vans and tippers
Every visit needs a slot booked in advance through South Lanarkshire Council's online system, whatever you are driving. Cars, vans up to 3.5 tonnes and trailers under 2.4 metres by 1.2 metres are accepted with a booking. Tipper vehicles are refused.
The rules are identical at the council's other sites, and if Cambuslang is full the East Kilbride site is the next nearest with the same hours; it has its own page at East Kilbride recycling centre. The council-wide picture is in South Lanarkshire recycling centres.
The general rule on vans across Scotland is that every council differs, and can you take a van to a Scottish recycling centre sets out who allows what.
Tenement flat, nowhere to store it?
We carry it down and take it the same visit. No slot, no van rule, no lifting.
What it takes and refuses
Accepted: garden waste, cardboard, scrap metal, construction waste, general waste, bottles, jars and cans, paper, textiles, motor oil, gas bottles, batteries, electrical items and vapes.
Refused: commercial cylinders, household renovation materials, tradesperson waste and wheeled bins. The renovation exclusion matters if you are doing up a flat in Rutherglen yourself: the old kitchen is not going to be accepted here, and the honest options are in how to get rid of rubble and plasterboard disposal.
Old upholstered seating is kept apart under the sofa rules, and batteries and vapes go in their own container, never the general skip.
When a collection makes more sense
For a car-load with a slot, use the tip. For anything bigger, heavier or sooner than the booking system allows, we come to you. We collect across Cambuslang and Rutherglen, including the tenement streets where there is nowhere to store a wardrobe while you wait for a slot, and we carry it down ourselves.
A quarter load is £160 + VAT with the carrying included, no booking, no vehicle rule, and a transfer note on every job under our SEPA registration, WCR/R/3002381.
