Bellshill at a glance
The site is on Jubilee Way, off the A725 on the east side of Bellshill, postcode ML4 1SA. It is the North Lanarkshire recycling centre for Bellshill, Mossend, Viewpark, Holytown and the north of Motherwell.
It opens 7am to 6pm Monday to Saturday and 7am to 5.30pm on Sunday, all year, with last entry ten minutes before closing. Like the council's other sites it closes occasionally for works, sometimes for an afternoon at short notice, so check the council page before a long trip.
Anything left outside the gate when the site is closed is treated as fly-tipping, and the council says so on the site page. It is worth taking seriously: fly-tipping penalties in Scotland start at £500.

ID, visits and vans
Cars can turn up without booking, but every visitor needs photo identification and proof of address, because the site is for North Lanarkshire residents only. Households are limited to twelve visits per financial year, April to March, and the count is per address rather than per car.
Vans and single-axle trailers under 1.8 metres must be booked at least a day in advance through the council's online booking. Nothing is booked at the gate. The last van slot is 4.30pm Monday to Saturday and 4pm on Sunday, well before the site closes.
The same rules apply at Airdrie, Coatbridge, Cumbernauld, Netherton and Shotts, and the council-wide guide is North Lanarkshire recycling centres. The Airdrie site has its own page at Airdrie recycling centre.
More rubble than a car boot?
Heavy waste is £149 a tonne, loaded by us, and it goes for crushing rather than the general skip.
What Bellshill takes
Glass, cans, cardboard, wood, garden waste, scrap metal, paper, rubble, car batteries, flattened plastic bottles, electrical equipment, fridges and fridge-freezers, vapes, fluorescent tubes and low-energy bulbs, textiles, shoes and bicycles.
Rubble is accepted, which not every site manages, but it is a car-boot quantity they have in mind rather than a driveway; for anything more, how to get rid of rubble compares the options. Vapes and batteries go in their own container and never in general waste, for the reasons in batteries and vapes in bin lorries.
Old sofas and armchairs are kept separate under the upholstered seating rules, and trade waste is refused.
When a collection is the better answer
Use the tip for a boot-load. It is free and close. Use us when the visits have run out, when it would take three trips, when the load needs a van you cannot get booked, or when it is a suite, a mattress or a washing machine that a car will not hold.
We collect across Bellshill with no ID check, no visit limit and no booking, and we do the carrying, including from upstairs. A quarter load is £160 + VAT and every collection has a transfer note under our SEPA registration, WCR/R/3002381.
