Disposable BBQs
The single most important thing with a disposable BBQ is to make sure it's completely cold — they stay hot for hours and have started fires in bins. Douse it with water, leave it well away from anything flammable, and only once it's stone cold does the foil tray go in general waste. Never bin a warm one.
Charcoal and metal BBQs
Let the ashes cool completely (at least 48 hours) before emptying them into general waste. The BBQ itself is largely steel, so a rusty old kettle or barrel BBQ is scrap metal — take it to a recycling centre's metal skip or a scrap dealer, or have it collected.
Gas BBQs — mind the bottle
A gas BBQ has one part that must not go in the bin or the scrap pile: the gas bottle. LPG bottles are pressurised and dangerous — return them to your supplier or a stockist (many take them back, sometimes for a refund). With the bottle safely removed, the metal BBQ is scrap like any other.
Whole garden clear-out?
We take old BBQs, furniture and clutter across Scotland and recycle the metal. Just keep any gas bottle aside for return. Send a photo for a price.
