Cars don't book. Everything else does
Angus draws the line cleanly. **You must pre-book if you are visiting with any sized van, pickup, trailer or liveried vehicle** carrying household or commercial waste. **You do not need to book for cars carrying household waste, or for mobility vehicles.**
That is more generous than South Lanarkshire or West Lothian, where even a car needs a slot. If you have a car boot to shift in Angus, you can simply go.
Note that 'liveried vehicle' catches a lot of people — a signwritten car or estate belonging to a business needs a booking even if what is in it is genuinely household waste from the driver's own home.
- Cars with household waste: no booking
- Mobility vehicles: no booking
- Vans, pickups, trailers: must pre-book
- Liveried vehicles: must pre-book
- Hours vary by site
- Some sites change seasonally
Hours change with the season
Angus site hours are not uniform and some shift seasonally. Arbroath, for example, opens Monday to Tuesday and Thursday to Sunday from 9.15am to 4pm — and on Wednesdays runs to 4pm from October to March, but to **7pm from April to September**.
That summer Wednesday evening is genuinely useful if you work weekdays, and it is exactly the sort of detail that is easy to miss. Check the specific site on the council's recycling centres pages rather than assuming they all run alike.
Liveried vehicle, or more than a car load?
No booking needed on our side. Arbroath to Montrose, photo quote in minutes.
What the sites take
The usual household range: garden waste, timber, metal, rubble and hardcore, card and paper, plastics, glass, textiles, and electricals under WEEE (anything with a plug or a battery) including fridges and freezers.
Refused: asbestos, gas cylinders, bulk chemicals and solvents, clinical waste and tyres in quantity — see our hazardous and special waste page.
Trade waste is not accepted, which is what the liveried-vehicle rule is really about. Trade waste needs a licensed carrier and a duty-of-care transfer note — see builders waste removal.
When to have it collected
In a car, with a boot load, in Angus — just go. No booking, no permit, free. We would rather tell you that than pretend every job needs a lorry.
The trip stops being worth it when the load needs a van you would have to hire and book, when it would take several runs, when it is heavy enough to lift twice, or when it simply will not fit in a car — which covers most furniture and every appliance.
We cover Arbroath, Forfar, Montrose, Brechin, Carnoustie, Kirriemuir and Monifieth. Loads start at £100 + VAT with a transfer note every time.
See rubbish removal in Arbroath, house clearance or bulky waste collection.
